Well, our girls are growing fast. We have enjoyed watching them grow and change each and every day. I am in awe of God and his creation through this experience. I am always eager to see what is new with them and how many feathers are growing in each morning. Sometimes, I can notice a difference between the morning and night. It's so cool!
Browning loves to go out to the barn every day with me. He loves to watch them as they eat and move around.
Every time we go out there, we try to hold a few of the chick and bring them down to Browning's level so he can see them up close. He is doing well with them. He has try to bite at them only a few times but mostly just want to lick them.
Daniel holding one of the Amerancanas at 8 days old.
Here are the girls at 8 days old. We added a few small logs for roosting. They seem to be getting the hang of it.
It was nice outside a lot last week so, I set of a small area for a few of them to be out in the grass for a little bit. This didn't last long because of one of the cats (Falcon, our hunter) wouldn't leave them alone.
The girls at 11 days old.
Their wings feathers are almost completely grown in on day 11.
A Buff at 14 days old starting to get some feathers on her back and base of her neck.
They love their roosting logs.
Saturday Daniel dug up a few earthworms for them. They went nuts over them.
The girls at 16 days old.
Daniel gave them some dirt on Monday so they can get some grit to help with digestion and for dust bathing. Can you tell we live in Georgia? Red dirt!
The girls have been very messing with their feed. Every morning there is feed on the ground and they have turned over the feeders. So, last night I rigged up a hanging device for the feeders. It seemed to have solved the problem. I was pretty proud of myself because I did this without Daniel's engineering help.
Stretching...
It cracks me up how they stretch their wings and legs when they get up.
Daniel and I think this little one might be unhealthy. She is smaller and doesn't seem to be developing like the rest of the girls. She barely has any feathers. She also moves slowly and always seems to be sleepy. We are not sure what to do about her? Suggestions?
Nap Time. Awe... they cuddle too! So sweet.
Daniel said over the weekend, "I think we got too many chicks." I asked him what he meant by that and he said, "What are we going to do with 25 eggs a day." Just now thinking about that, Babe? I guess he will be eating a lot of eggs. I am allergic to eggs so I can't help with consuming them. Hopefully between our family and friends, we will have plenty of people that want farm fresh eggs. We are estimating that the girls should start laying eggs in August. So, I guess we have plenty of time to find people that want eggs.
Come back in a few days for more Chicken Adventure Updates!
