It's that time of year... to start planning for the planting in the spring! Now that we are getting settled in our house and on our property, we are ready to get a little more serious about growing our own vegetables. This season we trying something different... we are planting all organically grown heirloom/heritage fruits and vegetables. Daniel and I have both tried heirloom produce and we prefer the taste to the conventional hybrid produce. Another plus to growing heirloom produce is that we can collect and save the seeds from our produce each year.
In late January, we ordered heirloom seeds from Gurney's Seed & Nursery Co. Gurney's also has conventional seeds as well. So, if you are looking for just heirloom varieties be careful that you pay close attention that you purchase the right seeds.

Once the seedlings are ready to plant and the weather permits, the plants will be transferred outside to raised beds using the Square Foot Gardening Method.
We are looking forward to delicious produce this summer and also hopefully to be able to share some with people in our community through Madison Locally Grown, an online farmer's market of locally grown products serving the Madison, Georgia area.
